What we were doing during the Covid 19 pandemic
We had to close the Grangetown Community Hub due to COVID 19.
However, we have cooked and delivered 1900 free hot two course meal to the elderly and vulnerable, helped with prescriptions and shopping, secured vital PPE for care workers and gave out free sanitary products /nappies.
Some of our lovely free two course meals delivered to Martyn who is needs kidney dialysis and has been diagnosed with Cancer and Harry who is 85yrs old and must self-isolate.
Some of our delicious free two course meals delivered to elderly and vulnerable during covid 19. Thank you to our fantastic volunteers Mercers Foundation, Tees Valley Community Foundation, INEOS and Sabic for helping us deliver 1900 meals and helped us to transform three gardens.
We also asked the community to nominate individuals or families who deserve a garden makeover. In total we received 8 nominations. However, the ladies above received a lot more nominations from the community especially Leanne. All three stories are different. Leanne is a young mam of two boys with stage 4 cancer. She was diagnosed with mouth cancer last year and had half her tongue taken away. Unfortunately, it has come back but cannot be operated on because the cancer is wrapped around a main artery in her neck.
For Leanne’s garden we put new astro turf down, so she has no maintenance especially as she is going through six weeks intensive chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. We put bamboo around fencing, planted a lovely flower garden, lights for the fence and bought her some table and chairs.
Hazel lost her son to suicide last year and the community raised funds for a bench which she would love to place in her back garden when her makeover is complete.
Jean is a lady that has helped many residents and her nominations were from the people she has helped over the years
